Scarborough development to bring jobs, economic input

27 June 2018

Tourism Council WA has welcomed the announcement of the Metropolitan Development Authority Board’s approval of the 3 Oceans Iconic Scarborough development.

The development will increase Scarborough’s appeal as a destination through its convention centre, sky-deck and hotel. It is expected to make a significant economic impact, estimated at $155 million, while creating 718 jobs.

Iconic Scarborough’s convention facilities will attract high-yield mid-week visitors in the form of business events, while the resort-style hotel will attract leisure visitors and new visitors to the destination, particularly during the school holidays,” Mr Hall said.

“The sky-deck, with its outdoor observation area, will become a must-visit attraction in Perth for visitors and locals alike, and will be comparable to other world-class experiences such as Melbourne’s Eureka Skydeck and Q1 on the Gold Coast.”

The development will provide much-needed hotel supply in the Scarborough area, adding an additional 148 hotel rooms – an almost 30 per cent increase in room supply.

“Scarborough is one of Western Australia’s iconic beachside destinations, attracting a different visitor market to that which visits Perth. While there is currently significant hotel investment in the Perth market, this does not serve the unique Scarborough market,” Mr Hall said.

“This new hotel will provide an innovative and unique beachside experience, and together with Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough and other new and existing businesses, will transform Scarborough into Perth’s premier beachside destination.”

The hotel developer, 3 Oceans, is an experienced tourism business with strong marketing and promotion networks into China.

“The development will attract new visitors from China, helping us to create jobs across the State,” Mr Hall said.
