Organisers of the WA Tourism Conference are pleased to announce the 2019 event will be held in Karratha on September 16 - 18.
Following a competitive tender process, the City of Karratha was awarded the event in recognition of its significant commitment to growing the region’s tourism capacity and offering.
“We’re excited to bring the 2019 WA Regional Tourism Conference to a town with such ambition to grow its tourism industry,” Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing the region, its landscapes and unique experiences to tourism businesses and industry delegates from across Western Australia.”
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said securing the 2019 WA Regional Tourism Conference was a coup for the City.
“We are excited to show the delegates a warm Karratha welcome and for the opportunity to showcase our unique and underrated adventure, nature and eco-cultural experiences to a state-wide audience,” Cr Long said.
“Council is committed to strengthening our emerging tourism industry and is working hard to promote Karratha as a great place to live, work and invest through our Karratha is Calling place branding campaign, Destination Management Plan and Economic Development Strategy.
“This is a significant event on the WA tourism industry’s calendar and being selected as the second regional city to host the event in its history also demonstrates that our state-of-the-art Red Earth Arts Precinct will continue to attract conferences of this calibre.”
The WA Tourism Conference was introduced in 2015 as an industry-wide event, and is now co-hosted by a number of industry associations including Tourism Council WA, Visitor Centres WA, Caravan Industry Association WA and the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council. This year’s event will be the second held in a regional location, with the conference held in Albany in 2017.
