Play On in Perth with Grand Final Half-Price Tours

Western Australians are encouraged to support Perth’s tourism operators on the Grand Final long weekend, with a range of tours and experiences available at half-price from today.

Tourism Council WA has partnered with Destination Perth and Western Australia Visitor Centre in an industry-led and funded program, Play On In Perth, offering a range of discounted tours and experiences for the Grand Final long weekend.

Industry Welcomes WA Tourism Grants

Tourism Council WA has welcomed the joint Federal-State grant funding announced today for WA tourism businesses hit hard by east coast lockdowns and interstate and international travel restrictions. Grants of $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 will be available for tourism businesses struggling with more than a 30% downturn. 

Call for Mandatory Vax for WA Arrivals from 1 Dec

Tourism Council WA is calling for the introduction of a requirement for all interstate arrivals to Western Australia to be vaccinated from 1 December.

At its meeting last Wednesday, the Tourism Council WA board voted to support mandatory vaccination for all arrivals to the State, which CEO Evan Hall said would promote safe and responsible travel.

Tourism Industry Devastated as Visitors Locked Down

The WA tourism industry is facing its worst situation since the start of the pandemic, as potential visitors from across Australia are locked down. Business activity is down by 62% across the industry, the worst result since April 2020.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said the industry needed support from the Federal and State Governments to retain the businesses that would enable WA to recover interstate, and eventually international, tourism.

Expand Grant Eligibility to Support Affected Businesses

The eligibility criteria for the State Government’s $3,000 Small Business Lockdown Grants should be expanded to support more small businesses impacted by recent lockdowns.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said it was concerning that genuine tourism businesses which experienced a downturn due to the school holiday lockdown were not eligible for the Grants.

Assistance Needed as Tourism Businesses Face Average $58K Hit

Tourism Council WA is calling for financial assistance for tourism businesses which have lost bookings and thousands of dollars due to recent regional and interstate travel restrictions and lockdowns.

An industry survey reveals sole traders and mum-and-dad operators have already lost an average of $9,600 per business, which will rise to at least $22,000 each if the lockdown is extended beyond Friday.
