Election Commitments to Tourism Infrastructure and Facilities

The now returned Labor government made funding commitments for several small-scale tourism related infrastructure projects. These include:

  • 2.9 million investment in kiosk, water and power upgrades at Wellington Dam in Collie
  • $1 million adventure cycling trail in Harvey, off the Munda Biddi
  • A $30 million new tourism hub at B shed in Fremantle, which will be redeveloped into a new Rottnest Island ferry terminal, visitor centre, and event space.
  • Continue the 50 per cent discount on Transwa fares to regional WA.

There were several announcements by the returning Labor government that were described as tourism but have very low impact on visitation, particularly for the amount invested. These include:

  • $217.5 million in a new Perth Street Circuit and entertainment precinct to be built at Burswood Park.
  • $116 million Ningaloo Reef boating facility at Tantabiddi
