A practical, applied training program for Economic and Destination Development professionals. The Academy focuses on the real levers available to local government and land management authorities — and how to use them to drive destination development.
Delivered as an intensive two-day residential program, the Academy brings together a cohort of peers from across WA for an immersive mix of applied learning, case studies, group discussion and shared experience. What you will cover:
• What is a destination — and who really defines it
• Measuring tourism: data sources, visitor numbers and economic value
• Understanding visitor markets and what they're worth to your destination
• Levers for local government and land management authorities
• Making plans that actually get implemented
• Public–private partnerships, developing tourism product and investment facilitation
• Internal advocacy for destination development within your authority
The Academy is open to economic and destination development staff from local governments and state and federal land management authorities. Regional and local tourism associations with product and a mandate for destination development are also welcome.
