Purpose
Welcoming visitors to Country has always been part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, which had clear boundaries, with the crossing into another group’s Country requiring a request for permission to enter.
An Acknowledgement of Country is a way for anyone to show respect for Traditional Owners and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, in various settings.
