The Heritage Council

The Heritage Council’s Strategic Plan 2019-2023 identifies the importance of heritage tourism to the State’s economy and a commitment to work with tourism authorities, representative bodies and other industry stakeholders on recognising the contribution of heritage tourism and elevating this aspect in State tourism strategies. Heritage tourism is a growth industry that presents opportunities to broaden the State’s tourism base, increase visitor experiences, and contribute to the sustainability of heritage places. Research has shown that heritage tourists tend to stay longer, spend more, and seek out experiences in museums and art galleries, historical and heritage buildings, sites and monuments.

Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) supports a vibrant, inclusive and connected WA community.

Arts and culture activities provide much needed social connection and support economic wellbeing. The 2021 Audience Monitor survey found that 87% of people said the arts make them feel good, along with 77% saying the arts are valuable for the community.

A huge shed (and former crocodile farm) on the water’s edge in Fremantle was to become the home of this beer and the birthplace of Little Creatures Brewing.
